Top Ten female serial Killers- I
A women is known to be an epitome of love, tenderness, care and endearment but there existed few women in the world who were callous enough to kill innocent people, children even, and chop them into pieces. Without a trace of sweat on their faces, they brutally murdered people and swore to kill till their last breath.
Leonarda Cianciulli A.K.A (The Correggio soap maker)
Born in Italy, Cianciulli attempted suicide thrice when she was young. She got married to a registry office clerk and had a rough relationship with her parents all her life. Later she became very popular as a benign lady running a small shop in her locality. She had 17 pregnancies out of which only 4 children survived and she became over protective for them and decided to make sure their safety through human sacrifices. She used to drug her victims through wine and cut their bodies into pieces with an axe after which she prepared Tea cakes and soaps mixing chemicals with their dead bodies.
The Smirking Cold Confession
confessed in her memoir, An Embittered Soul’s Confessions, “I threw the pieces into a pot, added seven kilos of caustic soda, which I had bought to make soap, and stirred the mixture until the pieces dissolved in a thick, dark mush that I poured into several buckets and emptied in a nearby septic tank. As for the blood in the basin, I waited until it had coagulated, dried it in the oven, ground it and mixed it with flour, sugar, chocolate, milk and eggs, as well as a bit of margarine, kneading all the ingredients together. I made lots of crunchy tea cakes and served them to the ladies who came to visit, though Giuseppe and I also ate them”.
After her trial, she was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 3 years in criminal asylum where she died of cerebral apoplexy.
Psychology vs Superstition
There are many reasons provided by psychologist about a serial killer’s thought process. They give many explanations regarding the motivating force behind the serial killer’s psychology such as anger, money, lust, jealousy etc but how can one justify killing for pleasure? Leonarda was a palm reader herself which made her obsessed with fortune telling and she justified her killings by providing reasons such as her children’s protection, but what can be said about the way she disposed all the bodies. One can say that there was something more to it and it can be observed that she gained pleasure out of someone else’s pain, and if not then how can a human being after brutally murdering someone, munch on the dead body of that person. Making perfumed soaps out of a dead body and taking proud in it is a sign of mental illness which is apparent from what she said in her memoir. Can one say that getting obsessed with superstition is something which may turn one into something which they are not? She often blamed her killings on her parents saying that they cursed her. She claimed once that a palm reader told her “In your right hand I see prison, In your left, a criminal asylum” . One can also think that this can be called a direction tuner in her life. May be due to suffering from a disturbed life, there was an energy accumulating inside her which could have come out in some other form but came out in this because of her less practical thought process which was terribly blocked by superstition. Who thought that blind faith can turn out like this.
The Toughest Part
Women, an epitome of warmth can turn into such a callous being who can hppily gain pleasure out of somebody else’s tears.
Wuornos was born to a Finnish-American girl when she was barely 16 years old. Her father was a schizophrenic and was also convicted of sex crimes against children. At a very young age of 11, she began trading her body for cigarettes, drugs and women. She claimed to be raped by her grandfather and was also impregnated by her grandfather’s accomplice. Working as a prostitute, she killed 7 people and named it as self defence as she claimed that they tried to rape her. Shot at point-blank range, few of her victim’s bodies were found semi nude in their own cars.
Punished with death sentence, she was sent to Florida state prison for execution. After her appeal to US supreme court got dismissed she disengaged her legal council and said “ “I killed those men,” she wrote, “robbed them as cold as ice. And I’d do it again, too. There’s no chance in keeping me alive or anything, because I’d kill again. I have hate crawling through my system…I am so sick of hearing this ‘she’s crazy’ stuff. I’ve been evaluated so many times. I’m competent, sane, and I’m trying to tell the truth. I’m one who seriously hates human life and would kill again.”
An inner cynical look into the journey from rape victim to killer
According to FBI reports 70% of the serial killers are said to have a disturbed childhood. Although it can not be treated as an excuse for their killings but one can not ignore this fact as well. Reading about Wuornos early life, it is apparent that her childhood was much of a nightmare. Abandoned by her mother when she was 4, and brought up by a father who was himself a criminal, is it possible for somebody to turn out into a person of high morals? She went through such evil and unscrupulousthings at an early age, that one can easily call her a victim of fate. It is often said that life is a collection of contrasting memories, and humans are a collection of their memories, nothing more, nothing less, so how can a person with such bitter memories turn out into a new person, different from the environment one is brought up into. All children are the same, it is their upbringing which makes a difference, if this is the case then is it not right to blame her parents rather than herself?
Too harsh for the innocent?
One may argue that once somebody grows up and devolves into the world, the impressions of childhood fades away and are engulfed by the maturity but what about the harsh impressions created on the innocent hearts of poor little children. It’s nearly impossible to imagine one into her shoes. A bad upbringing can never be a justification for killing, but yes, it is a justification for turning into someone so cold, so indifferent that everything stops mattering.
5 children were killed in Greater Manchester, England around 1963 by Myra Hindley with her boyfriend Ian Brady. She along with her partner strangled innocent children to death, cut them with axe till they died and assaulted them sexually before murdering them coldly. The dead bodies of two children were discovered in graves dug on saddle wood moor and the third one was discovered on the same moor after 20 years of Myra and Ian’s trial and hence were called The Moor Killings. Myra was born in Crumpsall and was a victim of child abuse. Her parents used to beat her regularly. The couple used to discuss about ‘committing the perfect murder’ and ultimately practiced it on 5 innocent children. She died due to Bronchial Pneumonia caused by heart disease.
The Idealistic Podium of Women
Women since ages have known to be the paragon of love and morality, the female energy is said to be so serene, so pious that it can engulf nearly all the negative auras touching it, then what made these women to turn into such iniquitous and barbaric humans? This is a question which ponders in my mind every time I come across a female serial killer. Being empirical and dispassionate have always been attributed to men, but women have always been the opposites.
To create or to destroy?
women is bestowed with the power to create a life, she is known to be the source of positive energy in almost all the cultures but when I read about the women who went down to an extent of this magnitude, it gives me a chill down the spine. The extent of destruction invincible.
The list doesn’t end here, history has witnessed many such women but here are a handful of them who were sadistic of them all.
